Marika, aka Ms. Snow began listening to electronic music in high school after being introduced to it by a friend. It wasn’t until accidentally tuning into a late-night electronic music radio show that she first discovered drum and bass. It didn't take long before she bought her first vinyl record and started building her record collection back in 2000. After getting deeper into the sounds of drum and bass she was eager to go out and hear it played live on a loud, booming sound system. With the San Francisco drum and Bass scene going strong, she started going out, sneaking into clubs, and attending other d&b events around the bay area; that marked the beginning of her interest in DJing.
She started attending parties and undergrounds on a weekly basis, learning as much as she could by listening and watching others mix. In 2004 she got an old hand-me-down mixer and cheap pair of turntables and began playing as much as possible. She got her first gig in Winter 2006 and has played events in SF and LA since then. Influenced by many local DJs, as well as producers like Juju, Roni Size, Adam F, Dieselboy, and Black Sun Empire, Ms. Snow brings an abundant mix of hard beats and chunky basslines that make listeners get up dance. Building a strong reputation for herself, Ms. Snow is quickly becoming a familiar name among Bay Area DJ's and fans alike. Keep and eye out for her first mix CD due out Summer 2008. |
