ILL-D the DJ

ok, a little about me!

Throughout my life, i have been surrounded and deeply involved with many aspects of creativity and expression...both audio and visual...from growing up with a mother and brother who are practicing visual artists, to being forced to learn the piano and join the school band....one thing led to another, and here i am, trying to get my MFA in graphic design, while attempting to spin out as much as possible as a house/breaks DJ.

I've been raving/partying since 1999, in both the bay area (my home) and LA (i lived there for 4 years while attending college). before dance music, i was heavilly into punk rock during my skateboard days in highschool. i found the same raw, kinetic energy of punk within allot of electronic music. both types of music touched a part of me that wanted to move my body, whether it was to mosh or bust a move....after all, dancing to music is something universal within humanity. sometimes, we cant help but want to dance: it is the physical expression of the music we hear. this aspect of sound and dance is what has always attracted me to music.

Thru my years of going to parties/raves/clubs/gatherings, i have developed an appreciation for all the different types of dance music and subsequent sub genres (even sub-sub genres!), whether it was house, breaks, jungle, or hardcore. out of all of them, however, i felt a strong affinity for the house and breaks sounds....house for its 4 on the floor bad-assedness and overall funk, and breaks for...well, the fucking BREAKS! (u know what i mean...) Ideally, my sound as a DJ is an even mix of both house and breaks....because, within a set, i find it interesting to hear the 4/4 hit of house, to then be broken up by the mixing in of breaks...but whatever, ill honestly spin anything that makes me want to dance, regardless of genre.

Normally im quite calm and collected... but when behind the decks with willing listeners/dancers in front of me, i go fucking nuts. i know its really cliche for a dj to say this, but im addicted to that feeling you get when controlling the music that influences people to move and feel... so thats me in a nutshell i guess...if you see me at a party, come say wats up! (maybe ill have a new demo in my pocket to give ya ^_^) aight people, thats enuff about me...see ya on the dancefloor!
